Minister of Culture Werner Kogler assumes that the New Year’s Concert will take place in 2021 – but before empty ranks. If Salzburg can play Bayern Munich in an empty stadium, the New Year’s Concert must also be possible, he said in the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” (Saturday edition). “Well, I think there will be a New Year’s Concert, but I fear without an audience.” The Philharmonic had recently emphasized that they would also play in the empty Vienna Musikverein if necessary. Riccardo Muti (79) will conduct the concert on January 1 for the sixth time.
In an interview, Kogler left open the question of when cultural institutions such as cinemas, theaters and opera houses will generally be able to resume operations. “Here I must be careful in my prognosis, but I hope as soon as possible. We all miss that.”
